On 3 Books That Defined My 2018

These three books defined my 2018.

It was March 2018 and I was reading "Enlightenment Now" by Manila Bay when I got to page 65 (ironically a section on how health has been improving through the years), closed the book, went home, and attempted. You know what I mean.

After that, I voluntary checked in myself to Makati Med's neuropsychiatric ward. I was designated NP15. I tried to bring Enlightenment Now with me, but it was denied. All you can bring are white shirts and underwear. It doesn't matter anyway because I was all groggy with the drugs they gave me. I can't even read a page of the romance books that are in a bin inside the ward without my head splitting open in pain.

My then girlfriend now wife on the outside world tried to push some of my books inside, knowing I love to read. They went through my pdoc's scrutiny and were eventually allowed inside the ward. These are the books you see here - Collected Stories of Gabriel Garcia Marquez and The Little Prince. What's sweet about this entire affair was that my wife and brother wrote messages of support inside the books. I think that's cool.

I eventually left the ward only after five days. I haven't read these books since, but I hold them sacred. I still reminisce that period of my life today. The ward was peaceful - happy even. This world is too harsh for people like me. Like us. I wish we can go to a faraway planet as the Little Prince did. Let the snake bite.
