Review: Succubus
I really liked going to horror movies blind - the most recent film I did this with was Late Night with the Devil, and that was a fantastic ride - so I did it with Succubus since it got featured on my movie app's home page. Besides, when I did some research after I watched the film, it was either very new or very indie - there is no Wikipedia or Reddit official discussion page for the film yet.
The premise was great. I wish they focused more on the plot point that the malevolent entity was some kind of "dark matter" anomaly: "Demons" are just aliens from another dimension, ala "Event Horizon." Moreover, I'm glad that they did not go the Unfriended route and tell the entire story through a computer screen. The story would have suffered since there were some good set pieces that could not have been made if they isolated themselves to such restrictions.
It did lose itself in the final act; I think they cut some plot threads quickly and did not utilize Ron Perlman very much. Why do horror movies always fail when it comes to endings?
Anyway, there is nothing much else to say except that the design for the succubus in its demonic form was pretty good. Certainly not unique - it's Lilith from Diablo - but still pretty good.
3/5, worth some time if you have a way to watch it.
