Beyond patriotism, beyond being a social commentary, beyond waking up the consciousness of the "Filipino," these are simply good reads as they are. I devoured this set in a span of two days and it's still as lovely as the first time I've read the Filipino versions years back.
I've always compared Rizal to Dickens, both of them weaving nail-biting page turners with lots of conspiracies and characters whilst balancing light satire and heavy tragedy.
Truly emeralds in the field of Filipiniana that should be read beyond CliffsNotes by every Filipino.
